for all the air that's in your lungs Though Seth was stationed in Whitecoast, soldiers had been getting moved around lately. The situation in Newhaven has been throwing everything off. Why did Spectre have to make things harder for everyone? The Empire has kept all of the people of Loros safe for centuries. Even with all the deaths... They only execute those who deserve it, right? And the large military is just to keep the people safe, isn't it?
With troops being siphoned elsewhere, others needed to be shuffled around, just temporarily. Seth had volunteered to go to Redwell to patrol the routes for a few days. There had been a few shady characters, but nothing too conspicuous. The place was mostly just... quiet. The city wasn't really as much of a concern as the routes, though. There were people to handle the affairs of the city, but wild Pokemon needed to be kept at bay.
Most of what Seth had been doing today involved shooing away wild Pokemon he saw. If they didn't leave, they received a shock from Kitty (or some burny bits from Flamelord if it was needed). Thankfully, he hadn't been caught showing mercy; Seth knew that wouldn't go over well. Wild Pokemon were to be exterminated on sight, but Seth was barely more than scaring them.
He had just finished getting a stray Mankey to scurry back into the woods when Kitty perked up at the sight of something. Looking back at the route, Seth saw a boy a few years younger than him heading for the city. Probably just out for a walk, nothing to read into. Nonetheless, Kitty was focused and excited about him for some reason. The Luxio hadn't led Seth astray before.
Upon closer inspection, Seth saw that there was a small tuft of something in the boy's hair. It was yellow, blending in with his blond hair quite well, but it had eyes. Taking out the Pokeball Flamelord was being kept in and noticing that Kitty was getting ready to pounce, Seth called out to stop the boy, "Hey! You there!" The youth yawned, feeling the prickle of tears along the outer rims of his eyes before brushing them away lazily. Silently cursing that he didn't make it his mission to get enough sleep the night beforehand, but then again. The ground was only so comfortable. Regardless of basic sleeping apparatus he carried. Which was very little judging from the mediocre size of the backpack he carried slung over his right shoulder. He was thankful the wild pokemon didn't bother him as much as they could have. Waking up to find you'd been the heat source of a family of furrets was more pleasant than being mauled by an ursaring.
"Chuu~" The content snore made his look upward in vain. Because it's origin as perched within his unruly mane of hair, and sleeping at that. 'Well it's nice to know someone's getting enough sleep.' He grumbled spitefully in his mind, though the quirk of his lips drew the venom from the mental statement. The familiar restless feeling had the duo on the move yet again. To where? Who knew. They'd decide when they got there, wherever there may be.
Leo felt his brows lower at the well-used route he was traveling. There was always and uneasy feeling when taking these roads, a feeling of suspense he didn't like in the least. That what shy he usually went by the less populated routes. By far more dangerous and confusing than the main paths but he'd somehow managed to traverse them with minimal injury.
Even if he did feel the oncomings of a heart attack whenever he had to scale a height.
Maybe it was because Scruffy was out in the open. Well, kind of but not really since he was pulling off some impressive camouflage. The several patrols he'd passed by didn't even think to at an eyelid at the boy. Didn't the other regions let their kids wander around at ten anyway? Leo pouted. Oh the envy. He didn't have much time to think on the matter further before a raised voice was directed at him.
"Eh?" Blinking in confusion he turned to see- oh crap. Nevermind the dude it was the crouched luxio he had a problem with. "G-ah!" The glint in it's eyes and the tensed position of it's body screamed it was about to let loose and go for him. Leo wasn't going to wait around to find out. But before he could coherently think his decision through he'd already made a beeline into the trees.
Which was probably the worst road of action he could have taken considering a predator's natural instinct was to chase prey. Though the fight or flight response cared little for that level of logic.

for all the air that's in your lungs There was a moment where Seth just stood in shock. The kid ran. What did he think was going to come from that? He was clearly only a teenager and an adult soldier--albeit one semi-fresh out of the academy--was commanding him to stop with a ready-to-pounce Luxio at his side. Bolting for the woods was not the best option.
Kitty reacted much faster than Seth. Having already gotten excited by the boy, the Luxio was ready to charge--and she did. The kid only made it past a few trees before being tackled by Seth's Pokemon. Shaking his head and sighing, the soldier followed at a leisurely pace; Kitty didn't seem to think the kid was dangerous and with a big scary Luxio on his back, he wasn't going anywhere so there was no reason for Seth to rush himself.
Once he caught up, Seth noticed Kitty nipping playfully at the kid's hair and tail wagging high in the air, sparks of electricity starting to crackle in her fur. It would be rather recommended for the kid to stay calm as any electric attack from Kitty would hurt more than usual.
"Kitty. Be serious, here." Seth stood with his legs apart and arms crossed. The Luxio reluctantly got off the boy and stood next to her master, though still looked very willing to play. Seth just looked down with an expectant expression. He was mostly waiting to see what the kid would do. 242 ― And here we see seth's genius in naming his pokemon MADE BY KAIZU OF GS & TWF

Well he can't say he wasn't expecting the weight on his back. And in the brief but very real force of impact he caught sight of his pokemon companion fly from his head and off into the shrubbery somewhere. Whoops. But Leo didn't really have the time to dwell on it what with there being a luxio perched atop his back and...nuzzling his head?
He could feel the telltale tingle of static electricity brush his skin and make sections of his hair stand up on end. Coupled with the near violent nuzzling he was receiving by the time he managed to right himself his hair was all ways of haphazard. "Pleh!" He spat out a few strands of grass that'd managed to get into his mouth during the fall. "Gross gross gross."
Flipping himself over so he was resting on his rump rather than flat out on his face he was happy to find the cat had gotten off of him and returned to whoever it was just catching up to them. Presumably it's trainer.
Wait trainer? Oh boy. Leo knew well enough that someone walking about with such a pokemon freely would be affiliated with his supposed opposition. Even if he wasn't exactly inducted into spectre ranks, it didn't matter to them. He paused. "Kitty?" Leo blinked with a blank expression; coupled with a sweatdrop. "What kind of name is kitty..." He mumbled inaudibly to himself. The hand that wasn't supporting his weight reached up to touch a particularly stinging area of his cheek. He winced at the contact and drew back to see his fingers coloured a light red.
Likely the fault of either the debris of the forest floor of that of the luxio, he wasn't quite sure. Looking back at the most definitely older male he huffed. "And what was that for?"

for all the air that's in your lungs The Joltik escaped unnoticed, but the boy whose hair it had been hiding in didn't have the same luxury. "What kind of kid wanders the routes alone?" Save that Pokemon Seth was sure he had seen in his hair. Something had gotten Kitty's attention, there was no denying that. Yet, in the mess that was now the boy's hair, Seth didn't see what he had earlier.
The soldier brushed off the latter question, opting instead to attempt for control of the situation, "Do you have a permit for that Pokemon, kid?" Everyone knew it was illegal to keep a Pokemon without a permit, even something so small as a Joltik kept out of a pokeball. And so near Redwell, where things were already pretty sketchy? The kid was treading dangerous waters.
Kitty wasn't looking at the poor, tackled soul, but instead around behind him. She obediently stayed at Seth's side, but her attention was definitely elsewhere. Her actions seemed to suggest the bug was no longer with the kid, but Seth wasn't picking up on that.
The teen was left on the ground, Seth staring down at him and refusing to help him up. Despite the clear difference in power and Seth's attempts to seem intimidating--or at least act appropriately for his job as a soldier--he didn't seem very threatening. They were only a few years apart in age, and Seth's face didn't hold much malice. 236 ― Damn that joltik and its skill in escaping MADE BY KAIZU OF GS & TWF

He knew what the luxio seemed so keen in finding. Tufted head looking about the clearing they'd stumbled into, seeming a little disheartened when the cat hadn't found him on his head as she'd previously hoped he was sure. "What other ways are there to travel but routes." he huffed sarcastically. "Not that it's anyone's business but my own, I'm heading to see my gramps in Valedge."
Fabricating stories came to him with ease at this point. Giving out the street-rat identity didn't seem the best option to Leo, never had and likely never would. The pitying looks - as much as he hated them - were something he could grudgingly deal with. But when that one officer had suggested he be taken to an orphanage some years back he drew the metaphorical line in the sand.
"Anyway. What're you goin' on about?" Leo's brows furrowed while he picked himself up and dusted his clothes of foliage from the fall. That totally wasn't his fault in the first place. "I don't own any pokemon." The remark came out with such practiced ease. His believable tone was something he'd been working on from an early age, since manipulation seemed to serve him well enough in certain situations involving bleeding hearts.
Besides, Scruffy was an intelligent creature. Aside from Leo not actually having the bugs pokeball on his person (finding it far more managable to keep it amongst his stash of belongings back in Redwell) the Joltik was well skilled as evasion. Almost as if he were trained in such tactics. There were many scenarios where Leo found himself stumped by his friend's unexpected shows of dexterity and prowess.
Taking a little more time to assess his 'attacker' the teen crouched to meet the luxio- eh, kitty's - bright eyes. "I've never been this close to a luxio before." Or any of shinx's evolutionary line. But lucky him. Today he'd only been tackled by one. There was something for the memory scrapbook.

for all the air that's in your lungs Seth stood silently, listening to the boy's story. There was no way to tell if it was truth or lies, and Seth didn't have enough of a reason not to believe him. As the kid, Seth's eyes wandered over him, looking for anything incriminating, namely a certain Pokemon. Upon finding none, Seth frowned. The expression was more at his own mistake than any apparent fault of the traveler.
Kitty approached the kid when their eyes met, seeming ready to play still. She wasn't quite as excited as when she had noticed something earlier, but she still seemed friendly. Kitty's approval only strengthened the kid's defense.
They were allowed to look at each other or play or what have you for a few moments before Seth decided to cut the interaction short. "Valedge is that way, kid." Seth nodded in the opposite direction the boy had been heading. "You better get going before it gets too late in the day. Sorry for the inconvenience." Seth's expression said he was sincere and regretted knocking the kid down. His stance, however, said the kid was to leave while Seth combed the immediate area for any Pokemon.
Knowing Seth, not much harm would befall any Pokemon he found. At the very least he was required to keep them off the route, but all soldiers had been trained to (and were encouraged to) kill wild Pokemon. They were taught to consider them a nuisance. Were he to find a Joltik, however... Seth would be obligated to turn the Pokemon in and send out a description of its presumed owner. The kid wasn't hurting anyone, though. Not that Seth could see. 275 ― seth isn't gonna get leo in trouble, the idiot MADE BY KAIZU OF GS & TWF

Whoops. Leo mentally beratted himself for the geographical mix up but steeled his expression so as not to show it. Making a pass as the unamused youth how didn't at all appreciate being corrected but was embarrassed by his error all the same. "Thanks..." he mumbled. He was still peeved by the entire spectacle though. Even if this soldier showed less of a tight attitude toward his presumptions he still felt the system flawed. perhaps it was because he was young but he didn't have much patience for being told 'just wait 'till you're older.'
He bit the inside of his cheek, unsure whether or not to voice the question that sprung to his mind. "Out of curiosity's," he began. "Why exactly is it such a bad thing to be caught with a pokemon?" Because they're dangerous. Is what he expected to hear. A threat to society in the wrong hands and blah blah blah. But so were a lot of other things He'd heard the same spiel countless times in passing. Personally found it total bull but he tended to word it nicer when his thoughts became bit more vocal.
Truthfully he had no notion of where his friend was at this point. Unbeknownst to the blonde the joltik was speaking animatedly with several other bug-type pokemon among the tree canopies very near starved for interaction with his own kind. Not that he didn't love the little human he'd become so close too. But there's only so much of a language barrier one can take.

for all the air that's in your lungs Seth had never seen anything wrong with the system. To be fair, he benefited from it: being raised in a family whose sizable bank account was rooted in a military past, an easy childhood, and a job essentially guaranteed for life. He had been raised and trained to believe that people who had misfortune had caused it themselves by opposing the ever benevolent Empire. He didn't wholeheartedly believe this, necessarily. Seth had these beliefs in a way similar to how a child believes in a god: you might never have seen it, but its visage is everywhere and everyone around you says it must exist, so that legendary Pokemon must exist somewhere, mustn't it?
There had never been any reason to look into the Empire's grittier side. Seth was simply naive. He replied to the question in exactly the way expected, "Pokemon are dangerous. The Empire keeps the populace safe from them by keeping stern control of them and only letting those trained and deemed capable own them." The words sounded rehearsed; just another thing Seth had been trained to say, I suppose. Nonetheless, there had been a pause before he had spoken, as though he were hesitant to say the words. Why was it like that?
While he spoke, his gaze gradually shifted from the surrounding trees to Kitty. The Luxio wasn't dangerous. Sure, she had a couple attacks, but she was far from hostile. Maybe the kid would catch on to Seth's apprehension and relative gentleness--any other soldier would have handled this situation very differently. Perhaps if someone showed Seth the reality of certain things... His thoughts might change a bit. 273 ― seth is a great soldier MADE BY KAIZU OF GS & TWF
