Newhaven. It had fallen on hard times since the protest, this much everyone knew. Yet despite the growing tensions they seemed well enough to throw an event of spectacular grandeur. It all felt surreal, as though little expense was wasted on preperation. The decorations, the music, the-
"Food!~" Futher away from the throng of party-goers Leo found himself staring starry-eyed ad the assortment of food layed out before him. And why wouldn't he? For a kid on the street with no means of steady income or means to acquire food without stealing and the like. So when he heard about Sceptre's infiltration plan to liberate some allies he offered his help. Even if it was for his own selfish reasons at first; he was genuinely curious about the event as a whole. And if there did happen to be an opportunity to stage a rescue then it would be a bonus.
And the the soldiers had been nice enough to provide him with a suitable attire so as not to draw attention to himself. Dress shirt and slacks. Like hell he was wearing a tie and jacket. Yet he still felt out of place amidst such grandeur. Like that one chick from that fairy-tale about the shoe.
The place seemed to be thriving with excitement and lingering levels of apprehension. Understandable, since the anniversary of the riots had arrived. Nevertheless! The excitement of those naive enough to think it all in good fortune seemed contagious and soon enough many of unsure citizens chose to bury their uneasy feelings. As Leo's promptly stuffed his face he took to watching the other party goers with a lackadaisical expression, not yet happening upon a familiar face but keeping an ear out for anything interesting that may have wafted through the chattering.
These nobles were really living the high life in their polished ivory towers. The materialistic envy was there but from the moment Leo entered the vicinity he found himself unnerved by the amount of fake smiles.

{ } And there it was. The fruition of plans that had been nearly a year in the making-- Cassius breathed in the cool night air and adjusted his tie, sparing a glance at Thane. They had practiced this illusion time after time, hour after hour. Cassius himself was an older gentlemen-- graying blond hair and dark eyes, a sallow complexion, merry smile, and slight paunch rendering as a harmless, jolly grandfather. Thane was on his arm-- the Zoroark was a matronly woman with dark hair and bright blue eyes, silent and grim as he looped his arm through Cassius'. Bennett and Laurel Blake. "Isn't it a fine night for a celebration, my dear?" He asked, turning to look his 'wife' in the eyes. His own sparkled with a youthful vigor. "It's everything I hoped for." They had to find their sympathizers-- they were in this room, if all was well. Across the room he could see the rest of his agents, the more infamous disguised and the others not. His wolves in sheep's clothing. In spite of himself, Cassius allowed a smirk of satisfaction to distort his kindly features. "I do hope those dreadful Spectre types don't show up. Emperor preserve us." He reached around a boy to pluck a glass of red wine off of a passing waiter's tray. "Terrible business, don't you think, young man?"MADE BY VEL OF GS

The beginning of every event was always boring. It was almost Rufus' most hated time. You had to smile and greet everyone that approached you. Everyone wanted to shake your hand. Everyone wanted to place a hand on your personal space and greet you in a friendly manner. Everyone wanted to get something from you. Your attention. Your time. Your friendship. Your space. Whatever the case was, Rufus was one to enter in discreetly and make a beeline for the food. That was his favorite part of parties. Good, expensive food. So it was no surprise that the white-haired man had made his way towards the food area in a quick manner as soon as he enter the ballroom. Dressed cleanly in his military uniform. Pressed jacket and slacks with boots polished to a shine. A sword strapped to his right side, mostly for show and just in case along with a small pistol quietly tucked away in his jacket. Also a knife stuck in his boot. Maybe he was a little too paranoid for this event, but today, he felt that his prosthetic should bend at a ninety-degree angle to keep the hand tucked in his jacket. Very sophisticated! He hoped. Gold eyes glanced over to the two men stationed at the table, silently listening to their conversation. Dreadful. If Rufus was stupid, he'd think that there would be no spectres attending today, but he knew better. Everyone who wasn't ignorant knew better. The main attraction was to begin in a while and that was what everyone came for. The execution. A smile came to his face at the thought of those disgusting spectres dead bodies out for display. It's what they deserved. Death! Rufus angrily grabbed a shrimp cocktail glass, pulling his prosthetic hand from his jacket with the knub of an arm that he had left and worked to get the glass locked in the fake hand. The black glove slowly closing around the glass, the mechanical fingers moving before he finally flicked something at the wrist that was concealed by the sleeve for it to lock in place. And voila! Almost as if he had an arm and that it was holding shrimp cocktail. Perfect. He moved his way towards the one and a half men, giving a respect nod of the head in greeting. "It would be very unwise of you to have such hopes, Sir."MADE BY VEL OF GS

◄ Fear pounded through Arel's head, blocking out most of the chatter resounding through the ballroom. It made his scars ache under the makeup he'd used to conceal them, and he had to stop himself from rubbing it off in an attempt to relieve the pain. " Ugh." A soft grunt slipped through his lips as he leaned against the wall. At least he looked like he belonged. Probably a little too well, honestly. Every god he could think of had been sent a prayer the night before in the hopes no one would notice his identity. As generic as possible- that was the look he'd gone for. Not too flashy, not too shabby. Just a regular party goer trying to keep on the empire's good side. "Leo?" The kid was here, apparently, and stuffing his face at one of the buffet tables in a tidy outfit. The sight almost made Arel laugh before he caught himself, tension suddenly evaporating. "You should probably tone down on the food." His antics were already drawing a couple stares, and while they were more curious than anything, attention at a time like this wasn't something you'd wish for. "At these types of parties, you're not really expected to eat too much." The food was often there for show- nothing more. Maybe a quick bite to eat here and there, but Arel remembered finding it annoying when he was young- being expected to ignore the rows of treats. He never did, obviously, and always managed to sneak some of the pastries to his family's show pokemon. The memory made him grin a little. He'd always gotten scolded pretty harshly after. If they found out, anyway. Sidling up to the kid, he handed him a glass from a nearby waiter. "Non-alcoholic. Think of it like fancy juice." It'd been his favorite. Still was, kinda. But drinking 'kid stuff' at these parties when you were an adult- a noble, no less- was another thing noble blood didn't look too kindly on. He sighed. All this stuffy etiquette he'd forgotten until in the midst of it again. At least Leo wasn't going to try and talk politics, or about his latest brutal murder in order to 'keep the peace'. Arel had always felt the urge to roll his eyes at that stuff. Most of them never knew what they were talking about. Never mind all of that. He shook his head and returned his attention to his companion. "Enjoying yourself?" Leo Falkov

Well this was a little uncomfortable. Why did the tall people feel compelled to crowd around him so, it was awkward enough being here as it was without feeling even more miniscule than he already did. Outwardly he didn't show much discomfort, other than a brief look of curiosity toward the unfamiliar voices before he found himself picking at the generous selection. Perhaps it was a good thing that the confections were becoming a sort of hub of interaction in the sense he wouldn't necessarily have to wander to keep an ear out.
After downing his third slice of...well, whatever it was, the boy took a brief glance at some of the party-goers, meeting the gaze of the woman accompanying the older man who'd recently approached the table. The uneasy tingle the ran down his spine was enough for him to divert his gaze downward and return to his previous actions; albeit with a bit more apprehension.
He did his best not to choke at the mention of Spectre by comically shoving another slice of cake into his mouth. This event as a whole had him at the end of his wits. The outcome uncertain and a whole lost to risk losing should it all fail. And though a soldier he was not the weight of Scruffy's pokeball hidden on his person was a welcome feeling.
With cheeks full like some kind of binge-eating chipmunk Leo turned to see a familiar light-haired...friend. Yeah, friend sounded about right. He'd actually had a nice time talking with the guy believe it or not, and his pokemon was downright terrifying in that awesome, starry-eyed way. So J's came as a relief to the teen, knowing he wasn't totally alone here regardless of the hidden Sceptre members. "Whe! Mway yew gewin heu?!*" Leo realized that maybe talking with his mouth full to the brim wasn't the best way to excecute the manners expected of him and tried to rectify it via swallowing his mouthful in one go; at the expense of painfully stretching his esophagus. "Blaeh! Ugh, not doing that again." he coughed out.
"Wait what? You're saying they leave all this food out for it not to be eaten?" he blurted in disbelief. "What kinda sense does that make?" It stumped him. These guys could really discard all this stuff without batting an eyelash. 'What a bunch'a dicks.' His thoughts would have gone further had a liquid not been placed in his line of sight. "Juice?" Orange eyes blinked inquisitively at the substance before filling with surprise as he took a sip, finding that he liked the drink despite it being dubbed 'juice'. He wasn't a kid. "I'm not really used to this kinda stuff." He turned his attention now fully to the older male, food items forgotten. "The food's a bonus but there's so many people here, I feel stuffy."

◄ Arel had to stifle his laughter at the boy's earnest reaction, covering his mouth with a free hand. Gosh, this kid was a riot. It made this whole situation almost bearable. He handed over a napkin, hoping none of the nearby party goers noticed the outburst, or at least didn't take too much interest in it. "Here, wipe your mouth." Eyes briefly scanned the conservationists hovering over the punch bowl, motioning for Leo to follow him somewhere a tad less crowded. He didn't like people being so close to him, and not just because he was undercover. It was just plain uncomfortable. "Oftentimes they leave it out just to show off, honestly. You can eat if you like, but usually it's only the commoners and lesser folk that do, in my experience." Which, thinking back on it, was ridiculous. Everything about these parties was ridiculous. "You get used to it." He straightened his tie a bit nervously, letting out a sigh. The tension was creeping back up on him. As more people filed in, it became more and more clear just how chaotic this was going to get. Casualties had to be expected by this point. Arel just hoped he didn't end up being one of them. Another glance over the room was enough for a bit. Continuing to look around like that was probably going to start looking suspicious at some point. Instead he turned back toward Leo, trying to smile. "Yeah, it's crowded. No surprise there, though. Lily's the one hosting it- she always knew how to throw these things." Leo Falkov

{ } "It would certainly ruin the evening," he said with a sigh, turning to face the newcomer. An expression of surprise crossed his face for but a moment. "Oh! My lord!" Cassius' eyebrows shot up. "You are--" he feigned a bit of confusion, forehead creasing in consternation. "Rufus Church, are you not? Lord of Southwall?" After another moment his expression changed to one of sheepish embarrassment. "Forgive my insolence, my lord, I'm afraid I was simply excited to meet the man my son describes as a 'war god' in the flesh." He laughed from his gut, giving his silent companion a pat on the arm. "The boy's got all imagination and no sense. I'm told he gets it from me-- maybe the army will knock some of it into his head, eh?"From the corner of his eye he watched someone else approach the boy he had just spoken to. Another agent, if he remembered correctly. There wasn't much to go on, however; all he had seen of the man that night was a shaggy mane of blond hair and what he thought was a bit of distorted flesh. Ah, well, there would come other chances. RUFUS CHURCHMADE BY VEL OF GS

"Oh, thanks." He took the napkin without much hassle, discreetly wiping the area around his mouth of any leftovers. He couldn't have cared less about his manners but he didn't deny that J had a point. The less attention he caused the more likely they'd be able to succeed; and now that he wasn't hungry anymore that'd be a piece of cake!
This lower abdomen gave a growl. Nevermind.
"That so?" Leo looked up at the older man inquisitively. You must come to these things a lot then, if you know that much." A sharp pang of guilt pierced him at the suspicious thoughts the recesses of his mind conjured up but he was quick enough to douse those flames before they'd been fed. "I still dont like it," he mused, following after J to a less populated area. "I havent seen one legit smile since I got here."
Lilly? Why did that name sound familiar... Oh right! Wasn't thatbthe name of the chick hosting this thing? And consequently the same person who staged the executions. Leo's mood became a bit more sombre. "Have you met her?" His voice didnt bother hiding the distaste he held toward the woman hed never met.
