{  } The moon rose high over Newhaven, casting a pale light over the city. It was at this ungodly hour that Cassius had emerged from his the makeshift safehouse that Spectre had established in the city, hood pulled over his head and pokemon belt hidden under the folds of his clothing. The alleyway he stepped into was dark; there were no police patrols coming by for at least another hour. An hour was all he needed. "Alpha One, reporting. Are you there, Red?" All the intelligence officer had given him was a name and a code-- Athena Delacroix, for the purposes of this mission, Red. A file which had been of great interest to him. The information which it had provided him was scant at best, and he wanted to know why. He had sent out a brief call to some of the others who were assigned to the upcoming mission to be on standby, in case this turned out to be a trap, but, he hoped, it would prove to be little more than a precaution. A pale moon night. How many of these had Athena Delacroix seen over the years? And how many of them were soon painted with blood? Hopefully that would be lacking, this night. But one never knew what sort of twists and turns they might find in the dead of night within the Empire. The former agent of the Throne knew well what lurked in the shadows. Athena still did, after all. "I am. The second building on the right, beside the old department store. Feel free to invite in whoever else you brought along. I am not fool enough to think you came alone. Leave one or two outside for matters of privacy though. We do not want a patrol noticing." The woman's voice came in over the radio that Cassius bore. Kind of subdued in tone, but with a critical edge. The inside of the building that Athena had indicated was as much of a dilapidated and ruined wreck as the rest of the more heavily damaged area that she deigned applicable for the rebels to meet up in. The patrols here were sparce due to the damage and the soldiers seemed almost absent minded as they strolled through. How appropriate they would never notice what was right under their notices. The raven haired and crimson eyed woman stared across a large distance of open space as the Spectre and any others with him would make their entrance. A hole in the ceiling let in the light of the pale moon that provided the only true source of light in the room. Athena, or "Red" as the codename went was dressed all in black, from the longcoat that adorned her shoulders to the long-sleeved shirt she wore and the knee-length skirt and combat boots she wore. Oddly, she wore a pair of crimson armguards as well, perhaps an odd fashion statement. Black gloved hands rested on her knees as she sat upon a large chunk of cement that acted as an impromptu chair. { } He looked up as her voice crackled over the radio, putting a hand up to his ear. Quietly, he raised the others. "I'm going. It would be in your interests to attend." With that said Cassius began to make his way up to the meet point, moving with ease over sunken walls and rubble. Stopping at the entrance, he stared silently into the darkness. It was with no small amount of caution that he stepped through the hole and into the building 'Red' had indicated. In his gloved hand sat a small pokeball, his thumb poised over the button-- any sudden movements, and he'd throw. After a moment's hesitation, he spoke. "It's a pleasure, Athena." He paused to take in her appearance, even as his free hand pulled back his own good to reveal his own features. "I assume you know who I am." He supposed it was a risky move, but there was something about being back in Newhaven-- being back where it all began-- which emboldened him. ◄ Arel gripped his radio tight, heart beating against his chest as he hopped down after them. This was a dangerous situation he'd wormed himself into, and he was starting to rethink the decision. Maybe it wasn't worth it just to score some trust. Here in the heart of his old city.. Every extra noise put him farther on edge, knowing his scars wouldn't be enough to hide him from the people he'd beaten down and stepped on over the years. Quietly, he pulled his hood farther down, leaving his hair to cover parts of his face. Hadn't exactly had the chance to groom himself in a while- it'd gotten fairly long and wild. Lips parted, then closed. The silence was heavy, bearing down on him like weights, and he wasn't about to cut through that. Leave that for those who knew what was going on. Slipping through the door, he paused, fingers creeping toward his own pokeball where Kon sat snugly in comfort. There was confidence in his Hydreigon's abilities, just as he had confidence in his own. But the fear was there, lurking in his stomach and crawling it's way to the surface like sludge. "Oh-" The softly spoken word wouldn't have been heard, not over the now booming voice of his companion. Someone he most definitely recognized. Well shit. The raven haired woman with eyes of sanguine red nodded as she looked at Cassius. "I am perfectly aware of who you are." She looked over at the second to enter the meeting spot. He was a stocky sort, but the way he nervously fiddled with his hood spoke of either a fish out of water or someone who didn't quite belong in the first place. Then again, so too had Cassius fiddled with his hood in a similar manner. A tick of nervousness, she would chalk it up to in a generous moment. After a moment more of silence, one of her hands moved from the light and into darkness. Slowly, she brought into the light a bottle of whiskey. Opening it up, she took a quick swig before starting to speak once more. "As you can surmise, I am well aware of what is planned soon. However, I must ask you one thing. What is your goal?" { } A ghost of a smile crossed his lips before disappearing again. "If I'm going to spend half of my life on the run and in hiding, I might as well be famous." Cassius brushed a lock of hair out of his eyes, locking gazes with the woman-- from somewhere behind him, somebody else had joined them. He didn't look back to take note of who it was (another Spectre, undoubtedly), but the notion of someone at his back should things go south was a comfort, albeit small. "Our goal?" His head tilted as he asked, brows furrowing. "Our goal..." Cassius took on a more contemplative expression, letting silence settle in the dingy room before he answered. "Revolution."That was about as simple as it got. "Wherever that leads us-- whether that is anarchy or a new order." He thought of Newhaven-- of screams piercing the air, the iron taste of blood and the booted heel of the empire coming down to crush the vermin below. "Does that satisfy you? ◄ Again Arel stayed silent, eyes narrowing at the conversation going on before him. The event? He'd heard of it, and knew vaguely what was going to happen. But hearing it discussed so loudly and obviously was an interesting change. Most of the time information was passed in hushed whispers or behind locked doors. Spectre knew what it was up against and acted accordingly. So this meeting had to be important, but what the end goal of it was wasn't all too clear. Revolution? Anarchy? The words struck a chord in his head, surprising him. Was that what he wanted? Arel didn't know. Sure, he'd been going along with all this, but his end goal? Still unclear. "Revolution..."The woman seated upon the debris repeated the word slowly. "Revolution comes at a cost. For both the sides fighting and the people stuck in between the rock and the hard place." She brought the bottle of whiskey up to her lips, taking a swig of the strong drink before lowering it back down. "Don't watch yourself and you'll be no better than the Butcher here. No better than the Empire that slams down it's boots." Her gaze turned skywards, towards the pale moon and the stars that dotted the night sky. "Blood is the price of revolution. Blood for miles and days. This fight will be long, it'll be hard, and oft will it seem like no end in sight."She leveled her gaze downwards, back to Cassius. "If you really want to stay true to what Spectre preaches, then don't focus on the revolution. Focus on the people." Another swig of the bottle. "And more pressingly, focus on the people you're attempting to rescue. A fight for Newhaven will be bloody and I full expect the Imperials to outnumber us. Did you know at least three of the Councilors will be there? The old bat, the War Goddess, and the Executioner. And more Nobles besides them, of course."She looked squarely at the one who had not spoken up yet. "And who knows. Maybe there's traitors in the ranks. Not that I can speak for our friend here. But it's a reality." Athena shrugged, her shoulders briefly lifting before leveling downwards again. "At any rate, I'm here to do one thing. And that's assassination. Philomela had her hair tied back into a bun and easily concealed in a hoodie jacket, she was going to wear clothing that helped her NOT stand out particularly, mostly because it was rather dangerous for her to be walking about at this time of the day, or night as it was. Byron was far too large to be out and about, and using Winterberry would cause too much noise, so Philo had no real choice but to move on out on her own. Now, why exactly was she out? As far as Philomela was aware, there was a building near the old department store where a meeting would take place between other members of Spectre, mostly in coming of the ball that would take place at Newhaven. Now, all Newhaven residents were supposed to attend, but Philo herself had basically made herself into a fugitive, so why exactly would she want to attend a briefing on how to infiltrate the ball? Mostly an attempt for Philomela to try and make more connections outside of her comfort zone, for the most part. If she could find more channels to spread her word, then she could get word out faster. It was a net positive. The problem was getting in and staying in. Thanks to the radio that Philomela had on her, she could hear most of the things going on between other members. Slipping into the building that Philo heard would be the meeting place, she quietly made her way in and saw three other people, but she couldn't tell exactly who they were - they were either under the cover of darkness, or under the cover of their clothes. Then again, so was Philomela. No one wanted to risk being spotted by patrol, after all. When Philomela stepped in, she ran into an impromptu talk on revolution. It was something that Philomela had briefly considered - that this rallying would lead to a revolution. But no; Philomela's purpose was to be a purveyor of truth, not to be a harbinger of revolution. What the people chose to do with the information Philomela would tell, was up to the people. Philo resigned herself at the very least to the fact that everyone has a different way of standing up to the tyrant force. The person seated on the debris seemed to be talking about how revolution comes at a cost. The voice was distinctly female. She explained that the fight for Newhaven would be undoubtedly bloody - especially considering that three of the Empire Councilors would be present. Philo clenched her fist. She could not help herself but open her mouth as quickly as she entered the building. " You know what they say," Philomela sighed. " No such thing as a bloodless revolution. I want to believe that isn't true. A bloody revolution wouldn't make us necessarily better than the very machine we rage against. Then again, my only goal is to expose the truth, to rouse the people to be aware of the very reality they live in. What they choose to do with the truth I bring, is up to them. I digress, though. If you are that adamant on pushing through with assassinating Bellamy, you would be causing total chaos within the vicinity. { } Cassius asked, narrowing his eyes in irritation as Athena took another swig. How could he not know that? It was on his mind practically every hour of the day, the thought that kept him sleep-deprived and staring into the void. The price of revolution was heavy-- but Cassius had long since been ready to pay it. How dare you tell me what to do. Pride reared its ugly head. He opened his mouth to continue, but stopped at the sound of another voice. Cassius turned his head to look at his interruptor, amber gaze boring into her. She knew-- surely, his other companions knew. When he spoke again, his voice was cold. "I spent years searching for a peaceful solution." It came out a little more strained, a little more pained than he expected. He thought of the academy, of Birdy and Adrian and Victoria. "My last attempt at that was Newhaven." And what had that gotten them, for all their troubles? So much had been lost here. And soon, they would take it back. "This plan has been nearly a year in the making," Cassius said, finally, softly. "And I am a wanted criminal who's eluded the empire time after time. Have some faith." With any luck, a quick and decisive strike would even the odds for them. So many hours had been spent watching every video, reading every file of the councilors and nobles they could have-- surprise was their greatest sword, anonymity their shield. After another moment's pause, he continued. "But I cannot guarantee that we will wait for you to kill the counselor before we withdraw from the ball, should the plan fail, though I am of the belief that we can use the chaos to our advantage," Cassius shrugged. "Do with that what you will. As you say-- the people are my first priority. Now, if no one else has moral advice to give me, I'd like to continue before the next Empire patrol passes through." Oh, that's the rich tidbit -- it's celebrating the Empire success at the protests one year ago. They're celebrating killing his fiance.
There's no way in hell he's missing it.
As much as he'd love to just kick the door down and send every single Pokemon in his arsenal at the witch running this event, he knows better. No, to pull off anything here will require stealth and careful planning. Amory isn't a particularly patient man these days, but he can hold himself back if it means a more desirable result. And as a figurehead of Spectre, he knows his place.
So it is that he strides unceremoniously into a meeting in progress in some dank alleyway. He's distastefully late, and he doesn't like that. But what's there to do about it now? He makes no indication that he ought to have arrived sooner, simply stepping in among the ranks.
"Blood must be met with blood. They've set the standard." He's referring to the protests, of course. "Let's get on with this. There'll be sympathizers looking for us." His voice is gruff, to the point. "Gather them, make our move, and disappear." It's easier said than done, and it's an obnoxious task. Still, it must be done. Nobody else needs to die who hasn't earned that privilege.

◄ "I'm inclined to agree. The empire isn't going to stop and talk peace." He'd decided to speak up, perhaps emboldened by the sudden influx of people, though his heart still beat fast and hard. With each new person, the chance they'd be discovered grew. It was hard to believe so many of them could travel to the same place without being noticed, but they were spaced out enough that it'd hopefully be fine. "They've proven that time and again." Arel tried not to connect himself as one of those who'd proven it, feeling that tiny twinge of guilt in his chest. Instead, he turned toward Cassius, giving him a nod as if to say continue. "I'd like to listen." If they had to scatter before even hearing the plan- this entire meeting would have been a waste. Most of the people in here seemed on the same page anyhow. Mercy wasn't an option. Thinking back to his sister, or to any of the nobles he'd interacted with back in the day, that was fairly obvious. Almost all of them were brutally intent on bringing down the opposition. Spectre had to do the same if they wanted to get anywhere. "Simply advice."
Athena spoke up, seemingly undaunted and unsurprised by the flow of people. With each new voice, it received a simple glance from the woman that sat atop the debris. And in this case, it was two more faces that had names worth noting for the future. Amory Rush, one of the so-called leaders and founders of Spectre along with Cassius. And then the very vocal member of the Agnes family that had abandoned her post much like the former assassin. Nonetheless, her next words were probably a slight shock for the rest of the group.
"And I am not going after Bellamy. I am going after Battaglia. If you want to start a war, then prepare to cut the head off of the commander." A straight face looked at the gathered group, simply watching the rest of the gathered rebels. "Now, do go on. I would like to hear this plan of your's."

Yes, said official, Cassius Wolfe, seemed to be rather angered by all this. Philo could smell it from a mile away - and also, he claimed to be the one responsible for inciting the last protest at Newhaven that resulted in the formation of this whole Spectre group in the first place. He sounded a bit pained, but mostly his voice seemed to be strained. Philo had an ear for these mannerisms of speech, after all, she was taught to be a master of oratory. She had to know the weaknesses as well as the tricks of the trade. Regardless, Philo didn't want to be reminded of it as well - Wolfe may have lost family, but so did Philo. She knew just as well as anyone else that the outcome was one that nobody wanted, except probably the Empire. Which was why they were doing this all to begin with. Eventually, one who was even later than herself, another one of the officials, Amory Rush, strode in rather unceremoniously. He immediately entered by citing the age-old adage of "an eye for an eye" and a "tooth for a tooth." "Blood must be met with blood." Inwardly sighing, Philo knew that no amount of arguing for her case would convince any of these people to avoid violence. Not after what had happened back then.
Finally, the black-haired girl on the debris, seemingly calmly, stated that she would not go after Bellamy as Philo had interjected, but rather against a 'Battaglia.' Actually, Philo knew who the War Goddess was, but not that her name was a Bellona Battaglia. Unknowing of this, Philo did not make the connection, and so would most likely express less shock than any of the other members in the area who could put two and two together. She seemed confident about this move, though, so Philo decided not to outwardly object to it. For now, Philomela decided she would just silently listen to the plans devised by the others, before chiming in later on. She was a speaker, but for all her intelligence, she was not the type to be a 'strategist.' She was more of a 'thinker.'

{ } He turned his head, following the flow of conversation with a carefully schooled expression. With a nod at the blond (whose face he could not quite make out under the hood), Cassius continued. "To...elaborate on what Amory said," he paused to take in the assembled group. "This will be covert until the last possible moment. We enter in small waves, with the more well-known of us under disguise, illusion or otherwise, so as to not arouse suspicion. As far as I know, they will be expecting us-- but anonymity is on our side." His hand rested on the belt of pokeballs at his waist. "From there, we spread out and integrate into the ball. Do not attract attention, and do not give yourselves away-- though I suppose that much goes without saying. We will be looking for local sympathizers, but we will not be revealing them to the empire. Seek information on our captives discreetly." That was more or less the plan; simple, sleek, efficient. Individual orders would vary from person to person. "As for the main show of the night..."
"Well, you'll see." His mouth quirked into an enigmatic smile. "Be battle ready. Amory and I will likely engage Bellamy and Solovyov and perhaps one or more of the nobles-- Beau, Church, Ackerman, Goldsmith, or otherwise, while our friend here keeps Battaglia occupied. I do not recommend engaging any of them on your own. Additionally, I will be implementing a code word for use in identifying other operatives-- 'eclipse'. Any questions?"MADE BY VEL OF GS |
